Investments Closes on former K-Mart Building in Columbia,
Tennessee
Nashville,
TN (August. 16, 2004) ---
Baker
Storey McDonald Investments closed on the 95,000 s.f. building
formerly occupied by K-Mart in Columbia, Tennessee. The
building is strategically located on James Campbell Blvd.
directly across from Shady Brook Mall. Baker Storey McDonald
views Columbia as an underserved market that retailers want
to expand into.
The
lack of quality real estate has prevented many retailers
from entering the Columbia market. The building will be
redeveloped with new store fronts and subdivided to allow
for the entry of 2-3 new retailers. Baker Storey McDonald
Investments will create a new and vibrant retail center
to be named Columbia MarketPlace that will serve Columbia’s
trade area population of 175,000 people. Nashville-based
Baker Storey McDonald Development, is one of the Mid-South’s
leading retail real estate firms. The contractor will be
Nashville-based J.E. Crain Construction. H. Michael Hindman
Architects will provide design and architecture services.
Construction
on the project will begin in the next 90-120 days with anticipated
completion and opening before next fall.
“Columbia
is a wonderful city for us to invest in and the quality
of the real estate speaks for itself. We are fortunate to
have multiple, quality tenants who want to be located in
the center. Our most difficult task will be to select the
right mix of tenants that will provide the residents of
Columbia with a new place to shop that they will be proud
of ” said Allen McDonald a partner in Baker Storey
McDonald Properties.
“This
was truly a team effort”, McDonald said. “ We
knew we wanted to purchase this piece of property. We put
the property under contract and closed within a 21 day period.
We built our company to move with speed and precision when
the right opportunities come along.”
